The Work-Ordered Day

Recovery through structure, purpose and shared responsibility

At Mosaic, recovery happens through meaningful daily activity. The Work-Ordered Day mirrors the rhythm of a working day, helping members build routine, confidence and a renewed sense of purpose.

Running Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, the day begins with a 9am morning meeting to plan priorities and shape the day ahead. After lunch at 1.30pm, unit meetings bring everyone back together to review progress and reset for the afternoon.

Members and staff work side by side across the Clubhouse, with every task playing a real role in how Mosaic runs, from reception and administration to the café, garden and governance. The structure creates consistency, while the flexibility allows members to choose how they contribute and work at a pace that feels right for them.

The Work-Ordered Day is organised across three main units

An office with several desks, people working at computers, and large skylight windows. There are plants near the entrance, a bulletin board on the wall, and various office supplies.

Business & Administration

Supporting the daily coordination of the Clubhouse through reception, communications, finance tasks and general administration.

Two chefs working in a commercial kitchen, one woman with glasses and a bandana, and one man wearing a chef's coat and cap, both preparing food over large pots.

Café & Garden

Preparing meals, maintaining welcoming social spaces and caring for Mosaic’s outdoor areas to create a positive environment for everyone.

A diverse group of people sitting around a wooden table in a bright room, listening to a man standing next to a large screen displaying a presentation. The room has green walls, a large window, and skylights.

Employment & Education

Providing opportunities to explore training, volunteering and pathways towards work or study. You can learn more about this on our Employment & Education page.

A woman with long dreadlocks wearing a black and leopard print top writes on a whiteboard with a black marker. The whiteboard contains a list of tasks related to kitchen and cleaning activities, with some items highlighted in orange and blue. The room has large windows showing an outdoor scene with a deck and umbrella, and a yellow wall with a radiator below the whiteboard.

Real work that makes a real difference

All activity within the Clubhouse is meaningful and necessary. Members can choose to get involved in a wide range of tasks, including:

  • welcoming visitors at reception

  • preparing and serving subsidised lunches

  • supporting administration and data entry

  • maintaining the building and garden

  • contributing to communications and events

  • taking part in governance and decision-making

Whiteboards in each unit help members see what tasks are available and decide how they would like to contribute. Participation is voluntary, but every contribution is valued.

Take ownership of your day

Members are encouraged to take ownership of their day. Some people prefer to focus on one area, while others choose to move between units depending on what feels manageable or interesting at the time.

This flexibility allows members to build confidence gradually, develop new skills and explore different roles in a supportive environment.

Members shape their day at Mosaic through choice, responsibility and shared ownership.

Building confidence for life beyond Mosaic

By taking part in the Work-Ordered Day, members develop transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, time management and problem-solving.

Over time, this structured and supportive approach helps people rebuild confidence, strengthen wellbeing and take steps towards greater independence.
