From member to guide: Maria’s story

Since joining Mosaic in 2016, Maria’s journey has been one of steady growth, confidence and connection. Over the years, she has built skills across different roles, each one helping her feel more at home and more confident in herself.

Her journey took shape in the Business & Administration unit, where she became a familiar and trusted presence. Often the first point of contact on the phones or at the door, Maria supported the day-to-day running of the Clubhouse while also developing skills in data entry, finance and member attendance systems.

A key milestone came when Maria completed a Transitional Employment Placement with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Working as a receptionist, she took on real responsibility, opening and closing the building, managing visitors, booking rooms and keeping everything running smoothly. The experience helped her grow in confidence and return to Mosaic with a stronger sense of what she could do.

In 2025, Maria took on a new challenge, moving into the Information Hub. Here, her focus shifted to outreach and engagement, supporting people with benefits, contacting new referrals, and helping people take their first steps into Mosaic.

She now leads Clubhouse tours, welcoming prospective members and sharing her experience first-hand. Having someone who has been through the journey themselves makes a real difference, offering reassurance, understanding and a genuine sense of what’s possible.

Maria’s story is a powerful example of peer support in action. Through the community at Mosaic, she has grown her skills and confidence and now plays a key role in supporting others to do the same.
