My journey back to work

Melat shared her story at our Annual General Meeting:

Hello, everyone!

My name is Melat I know about Mosaic from my care coordinator. I was having mental health issues. I wanted to come here very much because I was sure it would help me in the area I need help with.

I came to Mosaic around a year ago. A staff member showed me around and introduced me to other staff and members of the Mosaic, which made me feel welcome and more relaxed.

I started to come to Mosaic and do computer work, yoga and work at reception. I got to know other members and started socializing with them. I made friends here. The staff was always there to help me when I got stuck on something, especially when working on the database.

Getting involved in Mosaic work gave me the opportunity to build my confidence on meeting new people. I also learned reception skills, answering phones and solving customer queries on the phone. The other thing I learned by working at the reception is signing members in and out.

Doing the phone helped me to be a good listener and be professional taking the calls.

Gradually I started doing some job search in Mosaic. I happened to see an advert for a customer service position in a bakery from an external source. The Mosaic staff helped me a lot prior to the job and on the job. The interview practice I did with the staff here, was very helpful, too.

I was successful at my interview. I started working at the beginning of October. Some parts of my job are still challenging for me, but I am doing my best to learn to work under pressure.
