Feeling at home in my new volunteering role

One of our members, Jeffy, interviewed another, Anne (left in photo) about her new volunteering role.

Hi Anne, can you tell us a little bit about your new volunteering role?
I started a month ago at Lambeth Mencap, in a community centre in Tulse Hill.

Do you work with adults or young people?
I work with adults with learning disabilities.

What do you do when you are there?
I support service users with all sorts of activities, including drama, craftwork and cooking. Plus sensory activities including the parachute game.

What do you enjoy about your role?
I really love assisting people that don’t find it easy. They are vulnerable people and deserve only positive experiences.

What you learnt about yourself?
Before I became unwell I did similar work, and going back to Mencap made me feel like I was going home.

Would you recommend others to look into volunteering opportunities in the local community?
I would absolutely. It’s fun, it’s challenging and an ideal way to acquire new skills.

Please speak to your support worker or a member of E&E if you are interested in looking for volunteering opportunities.
