Journey to full time employment

My Name is James, this is about my journey to full time employment. It began with going to the job centre and being told about Mosaic Clubhouse, to be honest it took me awhile to build up the courage to go. I seem to be constantly surprised at the support and belief people are willing to give you, this is what I found in Mosaic Clubhouse. Not just a place to go but a place to build your confidence and belief in yourself.

Within a few months I was offered a Transitional Employment Placement (TEP) at the Churchill Hospital, this was July 2014, as a receptionist. I took the placement unsure if I wanted it but again the support I got was priceless. Upon starting I soon realised this was what was missing and enjoyed the experience of working. I struggled some days, I won't lie it was difficult, but the rewards were worth the struggle. A year later I was still working and Mosaic offered me the placement permanently, also my Churchill Managers were willing. This for me was a great thing. Through hard work I had been rewarded with a part time job.

I worked consistently, helping where necessary, another year went by. In October 2016 I was offered extra hours in the Mental Health Act office, I said yes and this started me working more days covering admin jobs and reception. I had to take a leap of faith and come off ESA benefit which was quite frankly what I had been working towards. It was like a weight off my shoulders. It was what I had always been working towards. In the beginning of 2017 the finance officer at Churchill left and I was asked to cover the position. At the end of February I interviewed successfully for the position. It is now October and I am still working.

"With the help and support of Mosaic Clubhouse I started a journey that has been difficult, rewarding and altogether unexpected"

I never believed with the illness I suffer from that I would be able to hold down a job or have this sort of opportunity. With the help and support of Mosaic Clubhouse I started a journey that has been difficult, rewarding and altogether unexpected. Never underestimate the support and help that people are willing to give you from the staff at Mosaic Clubhouse and also the staff at the Churchill Hospital.

I am forever grateful and thankful.
