Health and Wellbeing

At Mosaic Clubhouse we aim to improve our members’ mental and physical wellbeing through wellbeing initiatives, sport and physical activities. There is a close link between good physical and mental health. People with a mental illness are more likely to have poor physical health. This in part is due to higher rates of health risk behaviours such as smoking, alcohol and substance misuse, and people with mental health problems are more likely to suffer from serious diseases such as diabetes and coronary artery disease. There is also overwhelming evidence that people with serious mental illness have a significantly shorter life expectancy than those without such illness.

Improving the physical health of our members is therefore important for reducing inequalities in health outcomes as well as the associated costs of mental illness. Alongside keeping people physically fit sport provides a positive social environment. It can help develop team work, self-discipline and act as a preventative intervention to build and maintain wellbeing and good health, and to combat social isolation.
