When I first came to clubhouse, what struck me the most was the non-judgemental acceptance I felt, and the real friendliness and welcome. At the time I was convinced I could do no work whatsoever. That very first day I was proved wrong, as I soon found myself working in the kitchen! A staff member had asked me to help and then worked by my side. Together, it flowed naturally. Back home that evening I was very surprised, and pleased. It seemed like magic to me!
Again and again, work opportunities in a supportive and caring environment have been sufficient to overcome my self-doubts and break through the inertia of my long-standing depression.
